Abstract Benefitting from ultra‐high porosity, large specific surface area (SSA), and rich active sites, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as a star material in energy environment related applications, especially photocatalysis. In comparison with conventional photocatalysts, MOFs can be customized terms of electronic structure, photo‐responsiveness, morphological dimensions by rational design, which means that eliminate the need for other species to achieve enhanced photocatalytic performance, such metals, compounds, polymers, may introduce extra costs, time‐consuming, multi‐phase, or an unclear mechanism. Most previous review works MOF photocatalysis mixed self‐tuning assisted‐tuning, often gives incomplete understanding. this work, self‐tunning analyzing component (as clusters, ligands, inclusions), defect (defect engineering, linkers, oxygen vacancies (OVs), crystal facets, dimensions, amorphization) is summarized. Then, outstanding examples these strategies applied water redox, CO 2 /N reduction, organic conversion, environmental treatment are discussed. Finally, opportunities challenges faced analyzed different perspectives. This paper comprehensive systematic on enhance activity.

Increasing water pollution and decreasing energy reserves have emerged as growing concerns for the environment. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) new generation nanoporous coordination polymers whose crystal structure composed juxtaposition organic inorganic constituent units. Due their flexible nature, regular structure, high surface area, these materials attracted much attention removing various from wastewater, splitting. MOFs Z-scheme heterojunctions identified an economical eco-friendly method eliminating wastewater systems, produce H2. Their low-cost synthesis unique properties increase application in environment fields. The possess diverse properties, exceptional making them ideal degradation separation. development formulation photocatalytic system using MOFs, which stable potent redox capability, has successful approach addressing environmental shortages recent times. Through utilization benefits offered by photocatalysts, efficient separation migration charge carriers, extensive spectrum light absorption, among advantages, notable enhancements can be attained. A novel doubly interpenetrated indium-organic framework of 1 has been assembled by In3+ ions and highly conjugated biquinoline carboxylate-based bitopic connectors (H2L). The isolated exhibits an anionic possessing channel-type apertures repleted with exposed quinoline N atoms carboxyl O atoms. Owing to the unique architecture, displays a durable photoluminescence effect fluorescence quenching sensing toward CrO42–, Cr2O72–, Cu2+ reliable selectivity anti-interference properties, fairly high detection sensitivity, rather low limits. Ligand-to-ligand charge transition (LLCT) was identified as essential cause luminescence modeling ground state excited states using DFT TD-DFT. In addition, negatively charged ability rapidly capture single cationic MB, BR14, or BY24 their mixture, including talent trap MB from (MB + MO) system selectivity. Moreover, intrinsic light absorption capacity band structure feature endow effective photocatalytic decomposition reactive dyes RR2 RB13 under ultraviolet light. Notably, after further polishing constructing S-scheme heterojunction In2S3/1, efficient detoxification Cr(VI) degradation have fully achieved visible This finding may open new avenue for designing multifunctional MOF-based platforms address some intractable environmental issues, i.e., heavy metal ions, physical pony-sized dyes, photochemical decontamination ultrastubborn toxic water.
