Converting biomass to produce renewable chemicals is one of the significant ways realize development green chemistry and sustainable chemical industry. As main component lignocellulosic biomass, lignin most abundant natural polyphenol. Its unique phenolic properties high carbon content make it potentially exploited. Biomass depolymerization can be divided into thermochemical, catalysis, electrocatalysis, biological methods. In this review, catalytic reaction systems involved in different methods were extensively described from various aspects, degradation products mechanisms discussed analyzed. The effects novel green-deep eutectic solvents on reviewed particular. Each method has its own advantages disadvantages. sources should selected objectively according compositional structure, so as achieve efficient depolymerization. addition, challenges future prospects also discussed.
