This study reports on successful synthesis of carbon dots (CDs), nitrogen-doped zinc oxide (N-ZnO), and N-ZnO/CD nanocomposites as photocatalysts for degradation methylene blue. The first part was the CDs utilizing a precursor from soybean ethylenediamine dopant by hydrothermal method. second N-ZnO with urea nitrogen carried out calcination method in furnace at 500 °C 2 h an N2 atmosphere (5 min-1). third nanocomposites. characteristics CDs, N-ZnO, were analyzed through Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), UV-vis absorbance, photoluminescence (PL), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal gravimetry analysis (TGA), field-emission scanning energy-dispersive spectroscopy (FESEM EDS), photoelectron (XPS), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. Based HR-TEM analysis, had spherical shape average particle size 4.249 nm. Meanwhile, based XRD characterization, have wurtzite hexagonal structures. materials show increased adsorption visible light region low energy gap Eg. Eg values N-ZnO/CDs found to be 2.95 2.81 eV, respectively, whereas surface area (SBET) 3.827 m2 g-1 (N-ZnO) 3.757 g-1(N-ZnO/CDs) belonged microporous structure. In last part, used MB (10 ppm) under UV-B irradiation pH = 7.04 (neutral) 60 min room temperature. showed photodegradation efficiency 83.4% kinetic rate 0.0299 min-1 higher than CDs. FESEM EDS before after three cycles confirm stability photocatalyst 58.2%. These results clearly shown that could ideal photocatalytic material decolorization organic compounds wastewater.
