This study explores the potential of storage lagoons as a quaternary treatment step in wastewater plants (WWTPs), focusing on compliance with recent European Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD), which mandates an 80% reduction specific micropollutants. The prevention of human infectious diseases associated with waterborne pathogens is reliant on the effective disinfection water supplies by drinking treatment plants and adequately maintained distribution networks. For decades, chlorination has safeguarded public health, where chlorine broadly applied in both food production facilities, including dairy industry, from farm to fork. identification byproducts produce great concern, however, due their cytotoxic, genotoxic, mutagenic, teratogenic, potential endocrine-disrupting activity. association between trihalomethanes (THMs) haloacetic acids (HAAs) tumour formation documented led implementation maximum contaminant levels enforced European Union. Furthermore, resistance bacterial species multidrug clinically relevant pathogens, antibiotic- biocidal-resistant genes are also environmental pollutants. Increasing concentration surmount this will ultimately lead increasing concentrations products, exceeding EU requirements.
