The recovery of valuable resources from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) has received a great deal attention as part the concept circular economy. Anaerobic digestion for stabilizing sewage sludge in WWTPs, which produces biogas and stabilized biosolids, is mature technology used worldwide. However, despite necessity achieving safe reliable organic recycling, studies on effect some emerging micropollutants this process are rare. This knowledge gap growing relevance because increasing use endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs), microplastics (MPs), engineered nanoparticles (NPs) industry human life. These ubiquitous streams and, therefore, may have serious effects course anaerobic sludge, raising concerns about their environment. article provides comprehensive overview mechanisms by selected EDCs, MPs, NPs affect valorization with focus production CH4, H2, volatile fatty acids. study takes into consideration performance during all stages digestion, shifts microbial abundance diversity, activity key enzymes process.

Abstract Residual antibiotics in chicken manure may interfere with the stability of anaerobic digestion (AD) and inhibit resource utilization efficiency. In this study, we aimed to enhance bio-methanation AD high-concentration sulfamethazine (SMZ) by adding metal (Fe, Co)-modified Enteromorpha -based hydrochar (Co-HC, Fe-HC). The results showed that Fe-HC Co-HC increased degree acidogenesis 1.25 times 1.58 times, respectively. maximum protein concentration EPS was 47.64% 72.5% after Co-HC. The widespread existence of sulfapyridine (SPD, a typical representative sulfonamide) in natural environment has raised increasing interest because its potential to cause antibiotic-resistant genes. In this work, the degradation SPD during heat-activated peroxodisulfate (heat/PDS) oxidation process was explored. pseudo-first-order rate constant (kobs) 0.0149 min−1 with 0.5 mM PDS at pH 7. kobs values were increased obviously concentration. Such ascribed sulfate radical (SO4•−) primarily according quenching test. A total 16 transformation products derived from hydroxylation, aniline moiety oxidation, and SO2 extrusion & rearrangement pathways identified by high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) theoretical calculations. Of which, production nitrated byproducts attributed molecule. organic matter (NOM) reduced efficiency SPD, while effects coexisting anions (i.e., NO3−, CO32−, Cl−) negligible.
