Abstract Lightweight ablative thermal protection materials (TPMs) with excellent ablation, insulation, and anti‐oxidation are urgently needed for aerospace vehicles. Herein, a distinct strategy was proposed that uses aerogel‐like polysiloxane (SiA) as matrix, carbon‐bonded carbon fiber (C/C) composite reinforcement to construct lightweight SiA impregnated C/C (C/C‐SiA) composite, through vacuum impregnation, sol–gel, atmospheric pressure drying. The intriguing characteristics including high mechanical strength stiffness, stability oxidation resistance, low conductivity of 0.063 W/(mK) were integrated into the low‐density (0.238–0.306 g/cm 3 ) C/C‐SiA. synergistic effect originated from pyrolysis products silicon oxycarbide ceramic inhibit oxygen diffusion gas retard convective heat transfer, emissivity surface re‐radiation dissipate transverse regulate transfer by C/C, enables C/C‐SiA deliver remarkable insulation performance (20 mm backside temperature below 40°C on heating plate 1800 sec) ablation resistance (near‐zero recession 0.18 μm/s exposed 1300°C flame 1200 sec). ceramifiable can be extended other preceramic polymers, such polycarbosilane, polysilazane, ZrO 2 precursor, which may open new avenue improving TPMs. Highlights Aerogel‐like material fabricated. gives properties.
