Hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) in wastewater poses serious environmental and ecological risks. A novel Fe3O4-loaded magnetic biochar (MBC) using Acacia falcata leaf powder was synthesized via one-step hydrothermal carbonization for efficient Cr(VI) removal. FESEM images revealed porous, irregular structures, EDS analysis confirmed Fe, O, C, Cr presence, validating adsorption. XRD indicated a lattice parameter of 0.8407 nm, characteristic magnetite nanoparticles, with an average crystallite size 11.29 nm. MBC exhibited superparamagnetic behavior facilitating easy separation. The deconvolution XPS spectra distinct peaks at 575.6 585.7 eV, corresponding to Cr(III), 577.3 587.8 Cr(VI), thereby confirming the dual roles reduction Batch adsorption followed pseudo-second-order Hill models, highlighting physisorption mechanisms. At pH 2, 303 K, 0.4 g/L, achieved saturation capacity 36.15 mg/g. Thermodynamic endothermic, spontaneous Desorption studies reversible ion exchange. 0.1 M NaOH showed better regeneration ability compared 0.5 solution. Phosphate ions reduced other competing ions. significant potential remediation by effectively removing from various water sources, achieving results comparable distilled water. Abstract Southeast Asia is vulnerable to climate change with over half of its population already being impacted by drought, flooding, and rise in sea levels recently. This work reviews the current water resource challenges Indonesia, prone rising impacts change. A baseline assessment Indonesia's drinking resources related original sources presented. In response a growing concern chronic that undermine supply nationwide, this study analyses safety supervision. To accomplish this, literature survey (100 studies published during 2000–2023 period) was performed identify regional groundwater sustainability security issues. Among main findings study, only 10% rainfall infiltrates groundwater, while 70% rivers are heavily polluted domestic waste. During period, availability decreased 1,200 m3/year 2020, 35% economically feasible for reuse. The deficit Indonesia estimated be 5.5 hm3/year roughly 67% population's demand satisfied 2021. Although might fulfilled private vendors, supply/demand forecasts 2030 suggest gap could not closed increasing supply.
