Political polarization in online social platforms is a rapidly growing phenomenon worldwide. Despite their relevance to modern-day politics, the structure and dynamics of polarized states digital spaces are still poorly understood. We analyze community two-layer, interconnected network French Twitter users, where one layer contains members Parliament other regular users. obtain an optimal representation four-dimensional political opinion space by combining embedding methods survey data. find structurally cohesive groups sharing common attitudes relate them party landscape France. The distribution opinions professional politicians narrower than that indicating presence more extreme general population. politically communities interact less with as compared centrist groups. apply empirically tested influence model two-layer pinpoint interaction mechanisms can describe seen data, particularly for Our results shed light on behaviors drive towards uncover informative multidimensional assess online. Existing studies of political polarization are often limited to a single country and one form polarization, hindering comprehensive understanding the phenomenon. Here we investigate patterns online across nine countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Turkey, UK, USA), focusing on structure interaction networks, use toxic language targeting out-groups, how these factors relate user engagement. First, show that networks structurally polarized Twitter (currently X). Second, reveal out-group interactions, defined by network, more than in-group indicative affective polarization. Third, interactions receive lower engagement interactions. Finally, identify common ally-enemy in mentions apolitical mentions, highlight between politically engaged accounts rarely reciprocated. These results hold represent step towards stronger cross-country Identifying is important for its root cause. Here, using data from 9 countries, authors mentions.

Abstract Sustainability is an issue of worldwide concern. Twitter one the most popular social networks, which makes it particularly interesting for exploring opinions and characteristics related to issues preoccupation. This paper aims gain a better understanding activity sustainability that takes place on twitter. In addition building mathematical model identify account typologies (bot human users), different behavioural patterns were detected using clustering analysis mainly in mechanisms posting tweets retweets). The took as explanatory variables, certain user’s profile her/his activity. A lexicon-based sentiment period from 2006 2022 was also carried out conjunction with keyword study based centrality metrics. We found that, both bot users, messages showed mostly positive sentiment. Bots had higher percentage neutral than users. With respect used keywords commonalities but slight differences between humans bots identified.

Abstract The extensive data generated on social media platforms allow us to gain insights over trending topics and public opinions. Additionally, it offers a window into user behavior, including their content engagement news sharing habits. In this study, we analyze the relationship between users’ political ideologies they share during Argentina’s 2019 election period. Our findings reveal that users predominantly aligns with beliefs, despite accessing outlets diverse leanings. Moreover, observe consistent pattern of articles related biased preferred candidates, highlighting deeper level alignment in online discussions. We believe systematic analysis framework can be applied similar scenarios different countries, especially those marked by significant polarization, akin Argentina.

Abstract In this article, we present the findings of a comprehensive longitudinal social network analysis conducted on Twitter across four consecutive election campaigns in Spain, spanning from 2015 to 2019. Our focus is discernible trend increasing partisan and ideological homogeneity within interpersonal exchanges media platform, alongside high levels networking efficiency measured through average retweeting. This diachronic study allows us observe how dynamics party competition might contribute perpetuating strengthening homophily, creating ‘epistemic bubbles’ Twitter, yet showing greater resistance transforming them into ‘partisan echo-chambers.’ Specifically, our reveals that rise new radical right-wing (RRP), Vox, has heightened among users entire spectrum. However, process not been uniform. While aligned with mainstream political parties consistently share content reinforces in-party affinity, resulting highly efficient bubbles,’ emergence RRP given distinct group associated most extreme positions, characterized by notable proportion out-partisan hostility content, which fostered creation low-efficient 'partisan echo-chambers.'
