Islands of cooperation emerge by stigmergic interactions in iterated spatial games

This article focuses on the emergence of cooperation in societies self-interested agents. In particular, it introduces a mechanism based indirect—stigmergic—interactions between agents moving an environment, to express likeliness finding cooperative partners. On one hand, that find themselves cooperating with others emit pheromones their current location, expressing presence willing cooperate. other sense tend move towards regions higher pheromone concentration. Results show this leads spatial where can be effectively sustained, and which overall get better payoffs than those not taking into account choices.
