Coal-based Carbon Dots (C-CDs) have gradually become a research focus due to the abundant raw materials and low preparation cost. Still, before coal-based carbon dots are widely used, systematic biological toxicity study is basis for safe utilization of C-CDs. However, level mechanism C-CDs organisms still unclear. To ensure C-CDs, present investigated C-CD nanomaterials as stressors probe their biotoxic effects on plant, bacterial, animal cells well photocatalytic oxidative properties The results showed that concentrations could promote various growth indicators wheat, high had significant inhibitory wheat growth; toxic (S. aureus) at specific were light-related; meanwhile, 1-5000 μg/mL, almost not HeLa cells; however, when irradiated 365 nm, even by generate singlet oxygen (1O2) oxidation under nm excitation light, resulting in enhanced cells.

Carbon dots (CDs) or carbon quantum (CQDs) have emerged as rising stars in the family due to their diverse applications various fields. CDs are spherical particles with a well-distributed size of less than 10 nm. Functional promising nanomaterials low toxicity, cost, and enormous field bioimaging, optoelectronics, photocatalysis, sensing. Plastic is non-biodegradable hazardous environment, however extremely durable used abundance. During COVID-19 pandemic, use plastic waste, particularly masks, goggles, face shields, shoe cover, has increased tremendously.
