Cross-linkers employed to enhance cyclodextrin's (CD) stability and mechanical strength in composite polymers may additionally micropollutant removal. The impact of cross-linker types on the interaction, removal, uptake steroid hormones (SHs) with cross-linked β-cyclodextrin polymer (βCDP) functionalized nanofiber membranes (CNMs) was investigated. primary objective study assess efficiency CNM cross-linking triphenylolmethane triglycidyl ether (TMTE) trimethylolpropane (TPTE) eliminating SH, as compared extensively used epichlorohydrin (EP) that is recognized for its higher toxicity epoxy-based structure. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed formation βCDP structure, while thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) validated successful immobilization matrix before after filtration. type influenced SHs their removal by βCD molecules during highest SH achieved βCD-EP βCD-TPTE, reaching 67 ± 4 59 5%, respective values 10.6 9.7 ng/cm2 at a flux 600 L/m2h using thickness 320 528 μm. βCD-TMTE exhibited lowest (22 7%) (4.9 ng/cm2) due hindrance posed Y-shaped polymeric chain, which limited access cavity. Molecular dynamics simulations further supported these experimental findings, illustrating more dispersed spatial distribution around cavity when TPTE TMTE were cross-linkers, contrast EP. In conclusion, triphenylphosphine glycidyl could be potential alternative EP CNMs, given comparable efficacy uptake. This highlights significance selection designing cyclodextrin-based materials applied from water.

Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest challenges to public health and ecological safety in 21st century. Urban wastewater treatment plants (UWTPs), as reservoirs antibiotic genes (ARGs) antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB), simultaneously contain a wide variety chemical pollutants. The review introduces actual concentration levels mechanisms drivers (ARDs) UWTPs, including antibiotics, heavy metals, disinfectants, cosmetics personal care products, non-antibiotic drugs, microplastics. Moreover, this emphasizes importance approaching activated sludge environment future research proposes directions.
