Abstract The current researches on microplastics in different water layers of reservoirs remains limited. This study aims to investigate the within a source reservoir. Results revealed that abundance ranged from 2.07 n/L 14.28 (reservoir, water) and 3 7.02 (river, water), while varied 350 714 n/kg (dw) sediment) 299 1360 sediment). average surface, middle, bottom were 6.83 n/L, 6.30 6.91 respectively. Transparent fibrous smaller than < 0.5 mm identified as predominant fraction with Polypropylene Polyethylene being prevalent polymer types. Additionally, pollution load index, hazard risk index calculated for sediments. showed surface exhibited moderate level sediments posed low risk. Both middle elevated levels due higher concentrations polymers significant toxicity indices. presents novel findings distribution layers, providing crucial data support understanding migration patterns facilitating prevention efforts.

Abstract Contamination by microplastics (MPs) has the potential to rank among world’s most significant environmental issues. Despite fact that MP contamination is a global problem, little known about time variation of MPs in agricultural soil and its faunal communities which represent key role risk assessment. This study represents first field investigation regarding concentrations ecosystem Egypt. Our investigates seasonal fluctuations common fauna citrus orchard ( Citrus sinensis ) Egypt’s Sohag Governorate. Moreover, this work aimed identify how feeding strategies body size selected affect no. ingested. The greatest mean concentration was observed summer (664 ± 90.20 items/kg) dry weight. However lowest recorded autumn (354 70.92 items/kg). Aporrectodea caliginosa (earthworms) more contaminated with (6.84 2.5 item/individual annually) than Anisolabis maritima (earwigs) (2.06 0.86 annually). When comparing between taxa without considering organisms, earwigs showed higher (ranged from 117.93 5.23 244.38 4.57 items/gm wet weight) earthworms 25.62 2.43 51.66 4.05 weight). results found blue red colors were predominant fauna. Also, polyester fibers (PES) popular type microplastics, followed fractions polyethylene (PE) polypropylene (PP). Interestingly, reduction particles present compared those soil. Pollution load index (PLI) value varied across seasons, due reduced abundance. Hazard (H) indicates moderate (level III) high abundance low hazard score (4) all seasons. starting point for further studies on impact organisms various soils.

Microplastic (MP) occurrence in the Lagos Lagoon has been on a progressive increase recent years. The potential impacts and hazards of MPs commercially available fish species from have understudied. This study aims to assess molecular damage due microplastic accumulation liver four commercial (Oreochromis niloticus, Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus, Clarias gariepinus, Gymnarchus niloticus) sourced directly Lagoon. results revealed that MP load ranged between 7.2 ± 1.9 9.5 4.4 particles/individual, with G. niloticus recording maximum concentration. observed extracted are predominantly black blue fibres while Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy polyethylene dominance plastic polymers. Relative gene expression statistically significant downregulation CYP 1a upregulation HSP 70 all microplastic-laden samples except niloticus. findings this suggest contamination tissues may exacerbate cellular toxicity biota Lagoon, thereby calling for urgent measures curb ultimately pollution. However, there's need in-depth research effects environmentally relevant microplastics edible further elucidate their impact.
