This study explores the fabrication and characterization of a pure copper electrode for an EDM equipment using laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) comparing its performance with original cast sample. The microstructural, mechanical, electrical, thermal, corrosion characteristics samples were analyzed. microstructure additively manufactured (AM) sample exhibited superior mechanical properties, 18% increase in ultimate tensile strength more than two times greater elongation comparison those Moreover, electrical thermal conductivity coefficients AM found to be consistent industry standards as 5.52×107 S/m 361 W/mK, respectively. Additionally, potentiodynamic polarization test results further resistance terms potential particularly 3.5% NaCl environment. Advanced electron microscopy techniques used investigate differences properties shed light on LPBF counterpart. Despite challenges manufacturing components through LPBF, this demonstrates feasibility producing functional part that competes effectively counterparts excels certain aspects.

In Additive Manufacturing (AM), parts are normally fabricated along the direction perpendicular to build plate. However, main axis of part may differ from this direction, leading concept "build orientation" that is an essential aspect in Design for AM (DfAM). Build orientation defines required support structures, turn affects time, material waste, and part's surface mechanical properties. The present paper reviews literature, focusing on most utilized Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) techniques metal AM. findings categorized based properties affected by orientation. First, manufacturability, geometrical accuracy, roughness, porosity reviewed. Then microstructural analysis, such as hardness, tensile strength, fatigue strength fracture toughness explored, followed wear corrosion Consistent attention given studies describing effects efficiency applicability post-processing techniques. Critical discussion results highlights a major factor be considered design evaluation PBF. addition, prospects field outlined, including necessity creating DfAM guidelines regarding orientation, which current work intended serve starting point.
