Street trees play a fundamental role in shaping pedestrian sidewalks, squares, and small rest areas, enriching the public space, together with paving, street furniture, lighting. However, project of tree lines along urban sidewalks remains an underestimated issue design strategic planning, even if it could be pivotal opportunity for widespread redevelopment living streets spaces. The present study focuses on landscape aspects ‘street project’ intrinsically linked identity, perception, morphological issues spaces, from vision city to human scale landscape. In this perspective, we discussed case Rome, Italy, where historical heritage has had extraordinary value, are considered notable contribution identity whole city. administrative council Municipality Rome initiated comprehensive census is currently developing Tree Masterplan. This plan will serve as guiding framework, outlining strategies conservation arboreal revitalization population streets. Based empirical evidence stemming study, discussion highlights relevance poorly debated issues, both academic practitioner’s literature, mainly concerning choice trees’ species. Choosing ‘right species right place’ implications that not only ecological environmental, but also perceptive architectural, being intimately associated scene places.

Constructing visually appealing public spaces has become an important issue in contemporary urban renewal and design. Existing studies mostly focus on single dimensions (e.g., vegetation ratio), lacking a large-scale integrated analysis of color visual elements. To address this gap, study employs semantic segmentation computation massive street-view image dataset encompassing 56 cities worldwide, comparing eight machine learning models predicting Visual Aesthetic Perception Scores (VAPSs). The results indicate that LightGBM achieves the best overall performance. unpack “black-box” prediction, we adopt interpretable ensemble approach by combining with Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAPs). SHAP assigns each feature quantitative contribution to model’s output, enabling transparent, post hoc explanations how individual metrics elements drive VAPS. Our findings suggest ratio contributes most VAPS, but once greening surpasses certain threshold, “saturation effect” emerges can no longer continuously enhance appeal. Excessive Sky Visibility Ratio reduce Moderate road visibility may increase spatial layering vibrancy, whereas overly dense building significantly degrades aesthetic quality. While keeping dominant focused, moderate saturation complexity attractiveness street views more effectively than uniform schemes. research not only offers comprehensve basis for aesthetics, also underscores importance balancing composition elements, offering practical recommendations space planning, design, configuration.

Abstract Despite growing evidence linking urban landscapes to human affect, there remains limited understanding of which environmental aspects contribute positive affect and how they exert their influence. Moreover, the role significance nightscapes have been largely underexplored. To investigate affective connections between nighttime environments individuals, a psychometric tool—the Nightscape Affect Index (NAI)—was designed, developed, validated. The NAI was systematically assessed for its properties, including reliability, factor structure, subsequent retest validation. Comprising three subscales—nightscape attraction, adaptation, attachment—the demonstrated strong internal consistency excellent reliability. scale also provided robust convergent, discriminant, structural validity. We discuss can be applied in both research practice enhance our relationship public responses, as well potential evaluating effectiveness interventions strategies reduce light pollution.
