Aluminum-based adjuvants have been indispensable to vaccine potency. However, their effectiveness is difficult maintain after freeze-drying, which limits the storage and application of aluminum-adjuvanted vaccines. In this study, impact freeze-drying on aluminum oxyhydroxide nanorods (AlOOH NRs) was investigated. Freeze-drying led aggregation resulted in loss surface hydroxyl content adjuvants. To alleviate freeze-drying-induced damage, potency different alkyl glycosides as protectants further evaluated. It demonstrated that structural balance head tail a glycoside more conducive protecting AlOOH NRs from groups. These results underline proper selection protect against functional defects caused by important for stability efficacy vaccines biopharmaceutical products.
