Understanding Young Consumers’ E-Waste Recycling Behaviour in Bangladesh: A Developing Country Perspective

The rising amount of electronic waste (e-waste) presents serious threats to the environment and public health. Addressing this challenge necessitates a focus on improving e-waste recycling rate, which is facilitated by consumers’ spontaneous participation. This paper explores factors influencing young behavior (EWRB) from developing country’s perspective. Though existing literature has addressed various affecting EWRB, role individuals’ pro-environmental goals (PEG) remains underexplored. provides an integrated theoretical model that incorporates PEG alongside drawn Theory Planned Behavior (TPB), Norm Activation Model (NAM), Behavioral Reasoning (BRT). Data were collected through survey analyzed using structural equation modeling. results reveal intentions toward EWRB are significantly influenced economic benefits, perceived behavioral control, moral norms, PEG, while benefits emerge as most influential factor. However, impact attitude subjective norm intention was found be insignificant. Results indicate despite having positive intentions, consumers often deterred due risks, indicating negative moderating effect risk intention–behavior relationship. Conversely, positively moderates reducing gap. contributes enhancing our understanding how interacts with other EWRB. Practically, findings offer valuable recommendations for policymakers practitioners aiming promote among consumers, particularly in Bangladesh.
