Abstract Ample evidence has documented the importance of coping self‐efficacy (CSE) in predicting psychological adaptation following adversity. Prior research shown that greater exposure to negative consequences associated with major collective traumas diminishes perceived ability cope. However, impact stressors on future CSE projections remains unknown. This longitudinal study examined individuals' self‐appraisals their capabilities adversities (future [FUTURE‐CSE]) a sample adult Poles ( N = 1245). The full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, initiated on February 22, 2022, has created numerous challenges, including the need to study under constant threat bombardment. This aimed analyze effects war academic performance medical PhD students in explore their perceptions stressful wartime events, and identify motivations future aspirations. mixed-method included from Bogomolets National Medical University Kyiv, during 2022–2023 year amid ongoing military attacks. Data were collected through self-completed questionnaires. Additionally, qualitative data gathered via one-on-one interviews with participants. questionnaire addressed educational difficulties war, motivation pursue studies, likelihood continuing an or career progress at time survey, self-assessed adaptation studying war. 108 participated questionnaire, 53 interviewed. Nearly half participants described education as challenging. More than two-thirds experienced class disruptions due air raid alarms shelling, a similar proportion resumed classes afterward. Among students, 85% envision careers physicians, scientists, teachers Ukraine. Adaptation extraordinary conditions varied, adapting well. A substantial number remained motivated professional Ukraine despite financial strain, loss research data, damaged infrastructure, which hindered for some.
