Abstract Aramid nanofibers (ANFs) are a strong and heat resistant nanomaterial that can be isolated from commercial poly(p-phenylene terephthalamide) (PPTA) fibers. These allow bottom-up self-assembly to form macroscale structures in various factors through simple reprotonation process. However, the mechanical properties of these reassembled ANF often fall short those PPTA fibers, mainly due insufficient packing, non-uniform microstructures, low crystallinity. In this study, we present films with improved prepared by repeated spin-coating technique combined process using deionized water formic acid at concentrations ranging 20 60 wt.%. Extensive analyses were performed on resulting evaluate their surface cross-sectional morphologies, chemical bonds compositions, thermal stabilities, properties. The fabricated exhibited remarkable performance, an elastic modulus 6.7 GPa, tensile strength 680 MPa, toughness 7.7 MJ m −3 , while maintaining inherent stability significantly exceed previously reported films, broadening potential applications for fields.
