Abstract To improve the strength and toughness of epoxy resins their composites, a series silane‐modified polyurethanes (SM‐PUs) was synthesized. The SM‐PUs were then incorporated into resin system to prepare polyurethane toughened composites. relationship between structures properties systems composites investigated. results revealed that addition can effectively both toughness, as well corrosion resistance systems. Among all systems, PUSiM/EP/DDM with two benzene rings PUSiT/EP/DDM ring exhibited highest respectively. maximum values tensile strength, elongation at break, critical stress intensity factor (K IC ), energy release rate (G impact reached 82.08 MPa, 10.06%, 1.64 MPa·m 1/2 , 1.77 kJ·m −2 26.87 respectively, showing an improvement 23.5%, 89.5%, 53.3%, 284.8%, 36.4% over those for EP/DDM. Moreover, PUSiT/EP/CF/DDM prepared by using best showed mechanical performance. Simultaneously, strengthening toughening mechanisms explored through SEM simulated internal network.
