Abstract The Asian tiger mosquito Aedes albopictus is well adapted to urban environments and takes advantage of the artificial containers that proliferate in anthropized landscapes. Little known about physicochemical, pollutant, microbiota compositions Ae. albopictus-colonized aquatic habitats whether these properties differ with noncolonized habitats. We specifically addressed this question French community gardens by investigating pollution gradients (characterized either water physicochemical combined variables or presence organic molecules water) influence microbial composition then presence/absence mosquitoes. Interestingly, we showed colonized waters did not significantly differ, exception N2O CH4 concentrations, which were higher samples. Moreover, larval covaried differentially along according colonization status. This study opens new avenues on impact areas raises questions biotic abiotic interactions adult life-history traits their ability transmit pathogens humans.

An emerging focus of research at the intersection botany, zoology, and microbiology is study floral nectar as a microbial habitat, referred to microbiome, which can alter plant-pollinator interactions. Studies on these communities have primarily focused yeasts, it was only about decade ago that bacteria began be studied widespread inhabitants nectar. This review aims give an overview current knowledge bacteria, with emphasis evolutionary origin, dispersal mode, effects chemistry plant-animal interactions, community assembly, agricultural applications, their use model systems in ecological research. We further outline gaps our understanding significance microorganisms, response environmental changes, potential cascading effects.

Abstract Insects play crucial roles in nearly every ecosystem and provide a wide array of services. However, both managed wild insect populations face threats from parasites pathogens, which require surveillance to mitigate. Current infectious disease methods for insects often involve invasive, time‐consuming occasionally destructive techniques, such as manual inspections molecular detection. Volatile organic compound (VOC) provides real‐time, accurate non‐invasive alternative detection has been well‐established humans livestock. Recent advances sensor technology now allow the development in‐field VOC devices. This review explores need highlights recent using VOCs this purpose, focusing on honey bees an example. We outline potential applications, challenges future prospects surveillance, providing examples how could be globally applied mitigate impacts range systems.
