Recently, the dairy sector has been ever more affected by global warming. This study aimed to test a novel conductive cooling system for cattle that was successfully implemented and evaluated under summer thermally challenging weather conditions in Poland. The consists mainly of chiller, tank, chilled water-driven mattress, designed prioritize animal well-being. experimental evaluation carried out on three Friesian dry cows, housed different types bedding—commercial water straw, mattress—and supplied with at 10 °C (day) 16 (night). mattress’ surface temperature twice as low commercial mattress. animal’s thermal comfort assessed physiological behavioral reactions. effect animals’ bodies demonstrated lower reticulorumen cooled cow (p < 0.05) than reference ones. local proved an 8 °C-lower skin after cow’s resting period. presented opens new research direction toward cattle’s welfare, sustainability, food–energy–water nexus, based potential energy savings.

Heat stress in animals affects productivity, health, and reproduction, with particularly pronounced effects dairy cows. Identifying heat requires understanding both physiological environmental indicators, such as increased heart rate, respiratory rectal temperature, which reflect the animal’s thermal condition within its environment. Thermoregulation cows involves behavioral adjustments to maintain homeothermy, aiming stabilize their internal state. To assess of animals, machine learning models have been developed, leveraging indicators for more accurate detection. Among various indices environment, Temperature Humidity Index (THI) is most widely used. Cooling strategies environments are essential mitigate stress. One effective approach use evaporative adiabatic cooling combined forced ventilation systems feeding alleys pre-milking holding areas. This method enhances exchanges facilitates dissipation between animal surroundings, thereby alleviating improving welfare productivity
