Asphalt pavements are subjected to both repeated vehicle loads and erosive deterioration from complicated environments in service. Salt erosion exerts a serious negative impact on the service performance of asphalt salt-rich areas such as seasonal frozen with snow melting deicing, coastal areas, saline soils areas. In recent years, evolution materials under salt has been widely investigated. However, there is lack systematic summary damage for multi-scale perspective. The objective this paper review mechanism mixtures binders discussed. influence categories modes binder classified. resistance different determined. addition, application microscopic test methods investigate generalized. This finds that pavement decreased significantly after erosion. A good explanation can be provided perspective pores, interface adhesion, mortar. exerted great influences rheological binders. showed remarkable diversity environments. chemical composition morphology well characterized by Fourier Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), tests. Finally, major focus future research challenges may encountered From literature review, pore expansion mechanisms differ fundamentally between conventional storage mixtures. Sulfate ions exhibit stronger effects than chlorides due their reactivity components. Molecular-scale analyses confirm solutions accelerate aging through light-component depletion heavy-component accumulation. These collective findings prior studies establish critical theoretical foundations designing durable
