The cleanliness of steel is a critical factor influencing its corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Electroslag remelting (ESR) technology has demonstrated excellent performance in removing inclusions from electroslag ingots. In general, four primary pathways exist for the removal capture inherited electrode ESR process. Current numerical simulation research typically focuses on modeling two or three these processes. This study, however, presents highly accurate model that integrates electromagnetic field with flow heat transfer throughout entire process inclusion movement, ESR. To validate accuracy model, 2-ton industrial-scale furnace was employed preparation hot work tool H13. By comparing metal droplet size residual distribution ingot as measured industrial production, ability to predict confirmed. results reveal increases 5 μm 20 μm, proportion exuded liquid film decreases. Purpose This study aims to assess the pitting resistance of austenitic stainless steel welded joints fusion zone (FZ) with high density inclusions before and after surface treatment, including potentiostatic pulse technique (PPT) pickling. Design/methodology/approach The potentiodynamic polarization tests critical temperature were carried out for estimating resistance. PPT pickling performed as treatment. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) energy dispersive spectrometer used characterize microstructure elemental distribution. Electron back-scattered diffraction (EBSD) was portion phases morphology grains. Findings weld metal exhibits a higher degree alloying compared base metal, it contains d-phase sulfur-containing inclusions. Sulfur-containing serve initiation sites pitting, they diminish metal. Both can remove inclusions, but causes localized dissolution matrix around while does not. Because certain pits initiated by are significantly deeper, which makes formation stable easier. deeper. characteristic facilitates progression these initial defects into fully developed, pits. Low alloy steel faces localized corrosion issues in service environments, primarily due to pitting induced by inclusions. Conventional protective measures cannot significantly improve the resistance of steel. In this study, an effective industrial approach was proposed enhance low steels.
