Abstract The Cerro Bororó Formation (Danian) crops out in the Hill centre of Chubut Province (central Argentine Patagonia). Palaeontological studies on this formation are scarce, among them is Petriella [Estudio de maderas petrificadas del Terciario Inferior área central (Cerro Bororó). Revista Museo La Plata (Nueva Serie). Sección Paleontología 1972;4:159–254] who made first and only descriptions fossil woods from Formation. We re-examined six angiosperm previously described by 1970s analysed 10 additional samples. studied specimens under light scanning electron microscopy. In addition, diversity, growth rings, mesomorphy vulnerability indices, wood anatomical characteristics influenced environment were used to get a general idea conditions which these trees would have grown. Our analyses revealed that assemblage includes Podocarpoxylon mazzonii Brachyoxylon raritanense conifer fossiliferous level Elaeocarpoxylon sloaneoides, Euxylophoroxylon chiquichanense, Laurinoxylon americanum comb. nov., Weinmannioxylon multiperforatum, cf. Chalkoxylon sp. level. These findings suggest region experienced warm-temperate, humid climate, agrees with previous

Abstract Insect faunas from the latest Cretaceous are poorly known worldwide. Particularly, in Southern Hemisphere, there is a gap regarding insect assemblages Campanian-Maastrichtian interval. Here we present an assemblage Maastrichtian Chorrillo Formation, southern Argentina, represented by well-preserved and non-deformed, chitinous microscopic remains including head capsules, wings scales. Identified clades include Chironomidae dipterans, Coelolepida lepidopterans, Ephemeroptera. The taxonomically resembles those of Cenozoic age, rather than other Mesozoic assemblages, being composed diverse chironomids lepidopterans. To best our knowledge, discovery constitutes first body fossils for thus filling between well-known Early entomofaunas Paleogene age. presented evidence shows that modern were already dominant diversified end Cretaceous, concert with parallel radiation aquatic angiosperms which became freshwater habitats. This exceptional finding encourages active search fossil arthropods geological units, could provide unique way enhancing knowledge on past diversity clade.

This research focuses on analyzing paleosols, major and trace element geochemistry, organic carbon levels, geo-archaeological aspects of Quaternary deposits investigated in two sedimentary successions located the east-central Barind region NW Bangladesh. Several factors that influence paleosol development can be used to decipher paleoenvironment paleoclimatic conditions study area. Sedimentary succession studied sections have been grouped into broad categories i.e., Gray unit/Newer Alluvium (NA) Late Holocene Red unit/Older (OA) Early Pleistocene age. Some geoarchaeological evidences found at bottom gray unit top red Durgadaha (DD) section indicating existence paleo-settlement about ∼1300 years BP. The age is determined by relative dating several artifacts surface. Interpretation field characteristics geochemical parameters clayeyness, salinization, base loss, calcification, leaching (Ba/Sr), aeolian input (Zr/Al), CIA, CIW, CIA-K, etc. revealed paleosols are weakly developed; whereas, relatively moderate, strong very strongly developed. In unit, MAP MAT range from 1000 ± 181 mm 1478 9° 4.4°–14° 4.4 °C respectively. On other hand, ranges 23.1° 0.6 28.3° paleosols. Depending depositional pattern estimated MAT, five short-term climatic cycles (i.e., alternating phases dry wet) recognized gray/newer alluvium units during last 1300 years. demise paleo settlement (1300 BP) due abrupt change towards a cooler phase where was as 0.6° which least 3 lower than present. also more analogous records Asian regions.
