Abstract Ethiopia’s economy has been significantly influenced by agriculture. However, it is unable to feed the nation’s expanding population. One of most significant obstacles improving food production in Ethiopia declining soil fertility. Various development measures, including intensification agriculture using contemporary agricultural technologies, have implemented enhance underwhelming performance technologies introduced into Ethiopian fertilizer, which helps smallholder farmers produce more effectively. Although there was a focus on promoting use these newly exploratory findings showed that many did not do so. Hence, this study aimed review different effects organic and inorganic fertilizers fertility crop production, as well their economic role country, specifically, importance value fertilizers, significance fertilizer application constraints affect or users. Regarding health, balancing can be beneficial for health sustainable Incorporating matter through composting manure improves structure over time, while judicious synthetic provide targeted nutrient supplementation when needed. Additionally, employing practices such rotation, cover cropping, conservation measures further minimize environmental impacts result, optimize yields crops.

Future colonists on Mars will need to produce fresh food locally acquire key nutrients lost in dehydration, the primary technique for sending space. In this study we aimed test viability and prospect of applying an intercropping system as a method soil-based production Martian colonies. This novel approach agriculture adds valuable insight into how can optimise resource use enhance colony self-sustainability, since colonies operate under very limited space, energy, Earth supplies. A likely early agricultural setting was simulated using small pots, controlled greenhouse environment, species compliant with space mission requirements. Pea (Pisum sativum), carrot (Daucus carota) tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) were grown three soil types ("MMS-1" regolith simulant, potting sand), planted either mixed (intercropping) or separate (monocropping). Rhizobia bacteria (Rhizobium leguminosarum) added pea symbiont Nitrogen-fixing. Plant performance measured above-ground biomass (g), yield harvest index (%), Nitrogen/Phosphorus/Potassium content (g/kg). The overall calculated total relative (RYT). Intercropping had clear effects plant regolith, being beneficial but mostly detrimental carrot, ultimately giving disadvantage compared monocropping (RYT = 0.93). effect resulted from observed absence nodulation negating Nitrogen-fixation preventing intercropped plants leveraging their complementarity. Adverse conditions-high pH, elevated compactness nutrient deficiencies-presumably restricted survival/nodulation. sand, where more favourable conditions promoted effective nodulation, significantly outperformed 1.32). Given this, suggest that simple improvements, enhancing shows promise optimising Specific ameliorations are proposed future research.
