The discharge of synthetic dyes into water bodies poses severe environmental risks due to their toxic and recalcitrant nature. This study explores the enhancement photocatalytic properties cerium dioxide (CeO2) nanorods by doping with lanthanum (La) improve efficacy in degrading aqueous solutions Congo red dye. CeO2 were synthesized via a hydrothermal method subsequently doped varying concentrations La. scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images confirmed rod-like structures (nanorods) observed for all samples, while energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) homogeneous incorporation La matrix. diffraction (XRD) spectra demonstrate lattice distortion substitutional defect. Photocatalytic experiments revealed that La-doped exhibited significantly enhanced degradation capabilities compared undoped counterparts, achieving up 3-fold kinetics ((30 ± 2) × 10−3 min−1) counterparts ((11.5 0.4) min−1). Influence various parameters affect photocatalysis performance (i.e., contact time, initial dye concentration, catalyst dosage, solution pH value) also investigated. Radical scavenger reveal superoxide radicals play dominant role process. Collectively, these findings confirm strategic not only enhances overall efficiency but tailors activity towards specific pollutants through radical-mediated pathways.

Abstract BACKGROUND Natural zeolite's inefficiency in removing organic compounds has been a significant challenge water treatment. To address this, this study focuses on an innovative and efficient hydrothermal process for altering the zeolitic structure. The aimed to determine optimal conditions zeolite treatment remove diclofenac, thereby contributing expansion of potential use RESULTS found that modification temperature significantly affected diclofenac removal, whereas cetrimonium bromide (CTAB) concentration impacted yield. (150 °C, 0.374 g CTAB /g , 6 h) were selected their mildness effectiveness. Characterization showed reduction micropores, development mesopores increase clinoptilolite content while maintaining crystallinity. Fourier transform infrared analysis zeta measurements confirmed surfactant's presence. Adsorption tests indicated pH, except at extremely basic levels, did not affect highlighting method's industrial applicability. kinetic revealed slower adsorption influenced by intraparticle diffusion. Equilibrium studies spontaneous, exothermic as result stronger interactions between modified adsorbent diclofenac. maximum capacity was 11.15 mg −1 with hydrophobic electrostatic enhancing drug removal efficiency compared unmodified zeolite. CONCLUSION findings demonstrate using natural zeolites wastewater through adsorption. © 2024 Society Chemical Industry (SCI).
