Wastewater treatment is a critical process for ensuring water quality and public health, particularly in the context of increasing environmental challenges such as pollution scarcity. Artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged transformative technology capable optimizing various wastewater processes, contaminant removal, energy consumption, cost-efficiency. This study presents comprehensive bibliometric analysis AI applications treatment, utilizing data from Scopus Web Science covering 4335 publications 1985 to 2024. Utilizing machine learning techniques neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms, reveals key trends role processes. Biomass valorization and biofuel production are essential strategies for converting renewable organic materials into sustainable energy, addressing the urgent need alternatives to fossil fuels. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of 1657 publications from Scopus database, covering period 2010 December 2024, revealing significant trends in this field. The number published articles reached 318 peaking at 163 2020, which garnered 7302 citations, indicating robust global interest. Abstract BACKGROUND Municipal wastewater comprises both organic and inorganic contaminants. Especially in rural areas, conventional municipal treatment plants primarily focus on carbon removal; therefore, nutrient removal should be prioritized for preventing environmental pollution. Mixotrophic microalgae such as Nannochloropsis sp. have significant potential removal. However, microalgae‐based systems can affected by many parameters and, using response surface methodology decision tree, a machine learning model help to determine the optimal conditions operate more efficiently. RESULTS The were determined light period of 21 h at an intensity 8000 lx temperature value 30 °C. Under these conditions, respective efficiency chemical oxygen demand, total carbon, Kjeldahl nitrogen, orthophosphate was 53%, 34%, 87%, 70%, respectively. Chlorophyll‐a concentration increased much 49%. Real used instead synthetic wastewater, yielding closer approximations real situations. Efficient wastewater treatment with high-quality effluent and minimal operational costs carbon emissions is vital for safeguarding the ecological environment promoting human health.
