This study compares the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) parabolic trough solar power plants using thermal oil or two different molten salt mixtures located at three sites and with storage capacities. The necessity appropriate model approaches for temperatures along a loop field is discussed, as well utilization heat from freeze protection plants. ternary mixture lower temperature limit 170 °C an upper 500 shows lowest LCOE all almost investigated Molten salts transfer fluids are particularly favorable high irradiation large capacities more than six full load hours.
