Abstract Microfluidic applications involving liquid manipulation, selective membranes, and energy harvesting strongly emphasize the importance of electrokinetic phenomenon, which is widely used at multiple fluid electrochemical interfaces. However, critical scientific issues that address multifield coupling multiscale physics have not been well addressed in non-Newtonian fluids. In this paper, electrical field–fluid flow–ion transport numerically implemented two mainstream problems, i.e., induced electroconvection phenomena ion-selective interfaces charge electroosmosis polarized cylinders. The effects different rheological properties, are absent Newtonian fluids, on interfacial dynamics, instability ion examined. results reveal rheology significantly modulates statistical data phenomena. Generalized power-law fluids alter velocity profiles, with shear thinning enhancing to lower overlimiting current thresholds thickening broadening limiting region (with hindered transport). Boger-type Oldroyd-B addition polymer decreases amplitude increases interface resistance. At low voltages, viscoelasticity minimally affects ohmic regions, but under convection-dominated flow, parameters, such as viscosity ratio, Weissenberg number, anisotropic parameter, electrohydrodynamic constants, enable controllable regulation behavior across a wide range. Finally, paper states modulated by complex charged polymers future cutting edge. relevant supplement systems provide guidance for design operation microfluidic devices.
