Abstract The elite athlete population in the United States has become increasingly diverse terms of racial identity. Although athletes colour are represented American sporting competitions, racially minoritized sports medicine practitioners continue to be excluded. purpose this article is examine factors sport perceive contributing their continued exclusion. Broadly informed by critical race theory, qualitative study draws on original interview data with 10 working intercollegiate athletics and/or professional States. Thematic analysis was utilized data. Racially perceived under-representation due (1) challenges representation, (2) network-based hiring practices, and (3) need navigate workplace culture. These findings discussed regards implications for practice, studies research. Through interrogating strategies toward anti-racism field States, suggests that initiatives seeking increase representation should focus organizational institutional change.

This was a cross-sectional study of sports medicine fellows from previous (2010-2015) and contemporary (2016-2021) training periods. There were 2315 trainees family (FM, 85%), 261 physical rehabilitation (PMR, 10%), 133 emergency (EM, 5%). PMR had the highest female Asian trainee representation while FM Black representation. no difference in between periods (30% vs 30%, P = 0.714). White decreased (72% 65%, < 0.001). (6% 6%, 0.894), (15% 15%, 0.970), Hispanic 7%, 0.130) consistent Female (participation-to-prevalence ratio, PPR 0.59), (PPR 0.48), 0.35), American Indian/Alaskan Native 0.17) underrepresented relative to US population. Efforts recruit groups fellowship may help create more diverse workforce.
