Abstract DNA methylation involves the addition of a methyl group to fifth carbon pyrimidine cytosine ring (5-methylcytosine, 5mC). 5mC is widespread in vertebrate genomes where it predominantly found within CpG dinucleotides. Whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) is becoming an increasingly accessible technique, used widely for both fundamental and disease-oriented research.
