Abstract In the study of neuro-electrophysiological recordings, aperiodic neural activity – with no characteristic frequency has increasingly become a common feature study. This interest rapidly extended to clinical work, many reports investigating from patients broad range disorders. work typically seeks evaluate as putative biomarker relating diagnosis or treatment response, and/or potential marker underlying physiological activity. There is thus far clear consensus on if and how relates disorders, nor best practices for it in research. To address this, this systematic literature review, following PRISMA guidelines, examines electrophysiological recordings human psychiatric neurological finding 143 across 35 distinct Reports within disorders are summarized current findings examine what can be learned pertains analysis, interpretations, overall utility investigations. Aperiodic commonly reported relate diagnoses, 31 reporting significant effect diagnostic related studies. ABSTRACT The brain develops most rapidly during pregnancy and early neonatal months. While prior electrophysiological studies have shown that aperiodic activity undergoes changes across infancy to adulthood, the role of gestational duration in periodic remains unknown. In this study, we aimed bridge gap by examining associations between EEG power spectrum both neonates toddlers. This cross‐sectional study involved data from 73 (postnatal age 1–5 days, 40 females) 56 toddlers 2.9–3.2 years, 28 FinnBrain Birth Cohort Study. spectra were parameterized components using SpecParam tool. We tested as well postnatal parameters while including birth weight child sex covariates. For neonates, multilevel models employed, considering different acquisitions (sleep auditory paradigm + sleep), toddlers, regression used only was available. found longer associated with a steeper frequencies Effect especially strong ( β = 0.45, p 0.004), it remained nearly statistically significant 0.061). quadratic association beta center frequency (12.5–30 Hz) found. overall higher females compared males. Offset (calculated curve at 2.5 theta had negative but not Our results suggest may relatively long‐lasting effects on physiology. possible behavioral cognitive consequences these are enticing topics for future research.

We investigated the relationship between aperiodic electroencephalography (EEG) activity and code conflict, hypothesizing that former might serve as an indicator of latter. analyzed EEG behavioral outcomes a sample performing event file task, which assesses conflict in co-occurring or temporally overlapping stimulus response features. To quantify activity, we employed fitting oscillations & one-over-f algorithm. The results revealed typical partial-repetition cost effect, indicating performance is impaired if repeats while alternates, vice versa. This suggests previously combined shape were stored retrieved when any one these components was repeated. Notably, this effect also evident exponent, lower for partial repetitions than full alternations, implying increased cortical noise, higher excitatory E / I ratio, noisier decision-making processes. scalp distribution aligns with its sensorimotor characteristics. Thus, interpret findings promising preliminary evidence exponent may valuable neural marker conflict.
