ABSTRACT Oily water negatively affects both land and marine ecosystems. To combat this, membrane production can effectively treat oil waste recycle over 90% of it. This study compares the influence SiO 2 nanoparticles on rejection in two types membranes: polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) polysulfone (PSF). The NPs are characterized by FTIR, SEM analysis, zeta potential measurements. embedded PSF PVDF membranes were contact angle, permeability, measurements, recycling experiments. results experiments showed that reached maximum values 92.2% for wt% PSF/SiO , 94.1% PVDF/SiO membranes. experimental demonstrate incorporation SiO₂ enhances efficiency distinct types, exhibiting notable performance disparities contingent selected material. methodology achieves a rate waste, signifying substantial advancement environmental protection sustainable development. Consequently, technique is regarded as an efficacious approach management waste.

Ionic Strength and pH-Responsive Ultrafiltration Membrane to Overcome the Typical Permeability-Selectivity Tradeoff DOI Open Access

Stimuli-responsive polysulfone (PSf) ultrafiltration (UF) membrane was developed via surface modification with tethered hydrophilic polyacrylic acid (PAA) chains of length greater than the native pore size. The nano-structured (SNS) synthesized atmospheric pressure plasma-induced graft polymerization (APPIGP) to form a PAA brush layer. SNS-PAA-PSf UF demonstrated hydraulic permeability and selectivity in ranges 0.74–2.29 × 1013 m−1 1.8–15.0 kDa, respectively, response changes pH (3–11) ionic strength (~0.02–547 mM). Membrane performance characterization showed that, for above salinity, can overcome typical perm-selectivity tradeoff. is attributed swelling chains, upon decrease or increase, which provides less hindered transmembrane solute transport path, but increased resistance. Conversely, at high stress low chain collapse leads lower molecular weight cutoff (MWCO) resistance below that swollen state. study results suggest there merit further tailoring improving stimuli-responsive membranes, APPIGP, applications over selected strength.

ABSTRACT To develop high‐performance antifouling ultrafiltration membrane materials, a novel poly(aryl ether oxadiazole) (PAEO) was designed and prepared. Subsequently, modified containing phenolic hydroxyl groups (PAEO‐OH) further synthesized by reacting the oxadiazole ring with amino group at high temperature. The introduction of in PAEO‐OH enhanced its hydrophilicity increased pure water flux compared to 3‐PAEO membrane, while maintaining rejection ratio exceeding 90%. performance 3‐PAEO‐OH evaluated using three‐cycle experiment, which showed over 90% reversible fouling more than 80% recovery, highlighting excellent characteristics. Additionally, separation prepared varying PVP content, analyzed. results revealed that optimal achieved content 4.5 wt.%. In conclusion, demonstrates significant potential for various applications industrial purification processes.
