This review discusses the progress of research on sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) and its composite membranes in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). SPEEK is a promising material for replacing traditional perfluorosulfonic acid due to excellent thermal stability, mechanical property, tunable conductivity. By adjusting degree sulfonation (DS) SPEEK, hydrophilicity conductivity can be controlled, while also balancing mechanical, thermal, chemical stability. Researchers have developed various by combining with range organic inorganic materials, such as polybenzimidazole (PBI), fluoropolymers, silica, enhance chemical, stability membranes, reducing permeability improving overall performance cell. The need for green hydrogen through water electrolysis has propelled advancements in Anion Exchange Membranes (AEMs), positioning them as key components AEM systems. This review paper comprehensively examines various commercial AEMs, focusing on their properties, stability, and performance applications. By studying the characteristics of prominent AEMs such Fumasep® FAA-3 Series, Tokuyama A201 A901, Sustainion® X37–50, PiperION®, Aemion™, Orion TM1, this elucidates correlation between membrane properties overall performance. Special attention is given to stability durability, crucial factors long-term operation. Additionally, compatibility these with precious metal-free catalysts explored, highlighting potential application. These findings emphasize significance advancing efficiency sustainability technology. presents a useful source scientists, engineers, industry stakeholders attempting get comprehension technology, while also identifying avenues future research development. Anion-exchange membrane water electrolysis (AEMWE) has attracted attention owing to its operation in alkaline environments, which offers the advantage of not requiring use precious metals. Additionally, AEMWE exhibits higher kinetics hydrogen evolution reaction, enabling production efficiency. The anion-exchange (AEM) fabrication, catalyst design, and electrode assembly (MEA) are crucial for enhancing total performance. There is an urgent need summarize advances development pave way commercialization AEMWE. In this review, first, fundamental principles technology introduced. Second, optimization AEM with high ion conductivity stability through innovative synthetic methods discussed detail. Third, designs catalysts increase reaction rates by regulating OH-adsorption environment relieving OH blockage Last but least, a systematic summary concepts 3D-ordered MEA, 3D-unified 3D-self-supported MEA presented.
