The energy efficiency of water treatment plants (WTPs) plays a key role in the sustainable management resources. In face increasing demand, climate change, and increasingly stringent environmental regulations, optimising consumption processes is becoming priority for system operators decision-makers alike. Water plants, depending on type source served (groundwater, infiltration, surface water), vary considerably terms their technological design, which directly affects operating costs. According to International Association, sector accounts approximately 4% global electricity consumption, significant proportion consumed by distribution processes. Electricity used many process steps, such as pumping, aeration, filtration, disinfection, filter flushing. System Upgrading (SUW) depends not only quality taken raw water, but also size station, technologies, operation organisation. This study shows that implementing high-efficiency pumping systems AI-based optimisation can reduce WTPs 20–30%. introduction membrane filtration has demonstrated reduction use up 50%, while biogas from sludge cut external demand 15–25%. results emphasise potential CO2 emissions 10–20% compared conventional methods. However, achieving reductions SUW requires comprehensive understanding diversity facilities, processes, specific requirements.
