Multicomponent reactions, conducted in a domino, sequential or consecutive fashion, have not only considerably enhanced synthetic efficiency as one-pot methodology, but they also become an enabling tool for interdisciplinary research. The highly diversity-oriented nature of the concept allows accessing huge structural and functional space. Already some decades ago this has been recognized life sciences, particular, lead finding exploration pharma agricultural chemistry. quest novel materials opened field syntheses π-systems, i.e. dyes photonic electronic applications based on their properties. This review summarizes recent developments MCR chromophores highlighting following either framework forming scaffold approach by establishing connectivity between chromogenic chromophore de novo formation interest. Aroyl-S,N-ketene acetals are a novel highly diverse class of aggregation-induced emission fluorogens (AIEgens) with plethora interesting properties. An expanded compound library more than 110 dyes set the stage for first qualitative control and tuneability all aspects their photophysical The interplay substituents not only allows tuning prediction color, but also intensity, quantum yields both in solids aggregated state; these can be rationalized by scrutinizing intermolecular interactions crystalline solid state.
