The ratio of the lengths 2nd and 4th fingers (2D:4D) is a putative marker for prenatal gonadal hormone signaling has been linked to human sexual orientation. Although 2D:4D consistently found be lower in males than females, association with orientation variable across studies, one meta-analysis finding (more masculine) digit ratios lesbians heterosexual but no overall males. Digit ratio (2D:4D), a proxy of prenatal testosterone exposure, is putative marker physical fitness. No study has comprehensively synthesized studies examining associations between 2D:4D and cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF). We aimed to systematically review meta-analyze reporting aspects CRF. searched the literature for full text, refereed, cross-sectional Pearson's correlation coefficients objectively measured at least one aspect CRF was assessed using field-based measures (maximal long-duration exercise performance) or laboratory-based oxygen uptake [VO2max], ventilatory threshold [VT], mechanical efficiency [ME]). used random-effects meta-analysis estimate pooled 95% confidence interval (95% CI) CRF, moderator analyses influence sex age.
