In recent decades, surface air temperature (SAT) data from Global reanalyses points to maximum warming over the northern Barents area. However, a scarcity of observations hampers confidence in this Arctic hotspot region. Here, we study past 20-40 years based on new available SAT and quality controlled comprehensive dataset archipelagos Sea. We identify statistically significant record-high annual up 2.7 °C per decade, with autumn 4.0 decade. Our results are compared most global regional reanalysis sets, as well remote sensing records sea ice concentration (SIC), (SST) high-resolution charts. The pattern is primarily consistent reductions cover confirms general spatial temporal patterns represented by reanalyses. our findings suggest even stronger rate SIC-SAT relation than was known region until now.

Arctic fires can release large amounts of carbon from permafrost peatlands. Satellite observations reveal that burned ~4.7 million hectares in 2019 and 2020, accounting for 44% the total area Siberian entire 1982-2020 period. The summer 2020 was warmest four decades, with burning an unprecedentedly carbon-rich soils. We show factors fire associated temperature have increased recent decades identified a near-exponential relationship between these annual area. Large are likely to recur climatic warming before mid-century, because trend is reaching threshold which small increases exponential burned.

Abstract The Tibetan Plateau (TP) impacts local and remote atmospheric circulations, wherein it mechanically thermally affects air masses or airflows. Moreover, the TP provides a key channel for substance transport between troposphere stratosphere. This study reviews recent advances in research regarding land–atmosphere coupling processes over TP. experiences climate warming wetting. The carbon sequestration capacity of alpine grasslands, composed meadows and steppes, in the Tibetan Plateau has an essential role regulating regional cycle. However, inadequate understanding its spatiotemporal dynamics regulatory mechanisms restricts our ability to determine potential climate change impacts. We assessed spatial temporal patterns net ecosystem exchange (NEE) dioxide Plateau. grasslands ranged from 26.39 79.19 Tg C year-1 had increasing rate 1.14 between 1982 2018. While were relatively strong sinks, semiarid arid steppes nearly neutral. Alpine meadow areas experienced increases mainly because temperatures, while steppe weak due precipitation. Carbon on plateau undergone persistent enhancement under a warmer wetter climate.

Abstract East Asia is undergoing significant climate changes and these are likely to grow in the future. Furthermore, responses can differ substantially between transient stabilized GW2, which has important implications for emission policies.
