ABSTRACT The seasonal freezing layer is an important indicator of frozen ground's responses to climatic warming and environmental changes. In Northeast China, the permafrost taliks interweave with major spatial discontinuity variability. spatiotemporal variability contribution factors these changes are not fully understood. Based on 51 ground temperature monitoring sites in China from 2005 2020, maximum depth (MDSF) was calculated, environment climate‐driven MDSF were analysed by classification regression trees method. showed overall decrease region. With local thickening, varied between 1.2 3.1 m at a rate −4.34 4.80 cm/year. Air main driver (34%) regional Vegetation, rainfall snow play prominent role Da Xiao Xing'anling region China. impact other locally outweighs air temperature. findings highlighted importance beyond influencing active layer, emphasising their temporal variations.
