As a widely used plasticizer, di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) is known to induce significant testicular injury. However, the potential mechanism and effects of pubertal exposure DEHP on testis development remain unclear. In vivo, postnatal day (PND) 21 male rats were gavaged with 0, 250, 500 mg/kg for ten days. Damage seminiferous epithelium disturbed spermatogenesis observed after exposure. Meanwhile, oxidative stress-induced injury pyroptosis activated. Both endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress mitophagy involved in this process. Monoethylhexyl (MEHP) was as biometabolite vitro. The GC-1 GC-2 cell lines exposed 100 μM, 200 400 μM MEHP 24 h. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, damage, ER stress, mitophagy, significantly increased ultrastructure mitochondria destroyed. X-box binding protein 1 (XBP1) be activated translocated into nucleus. ROS generation inhibited by acetylcysteine. levels antioxidative decreased well. After administration inhibitor 4-phenyl-butyric acid, both inhibited. Toyocamycin-induced XBP1 down-regulation pyroptosis. equilibrium between accumulation. summary, our findings confirmed that induced ROS-mediated imbalance immature rat testes via XBP1. Moreover, might key target DEHP-related dysfunction.

Heavy metal residues in natural ecosystems have emerged as a significant global environmental problem requiring urgent resolution. Because these elements are non-biodegradable, organisms can accumulate excessive levels of heavy into their tissues. Previous studies suggest that prolonged exposure to enrichment poses comprehensive toxicity various organs vertebrates. However, few focused on elucidating the molecular mechanism underlying hepatotoxic effects Chiroptera. In this study, 10 Hipposideros armiger individuals were dissected from Yingde City (YD, relatively pollution-free) and Chunwan (CW, metals emission). Environmental samples also obtained. To investigate bat livers, we employed combination multi-omics, pathology, biology methods. Our results revealed Cd Pb livers food sources CW group (P<0.05). Furthermore, accumulation disrupted hepatic transcription profiles associated with solute carriers family, ribosome pathway, ATP usage, heat shock proteins. Excessive altered relative abundance typical gut microbe taxa significantly (P<0.05), inhibiting tight-junction protein expression. We observed decrease superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, along elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS) density malondialdehyde content following enrichment. Additionally, fat inflammation injuries present under conditions enrichment, while contents metabolism biomarkers decreased Consequently, induce hepatotoxicity by disturbing microbes-gut-liver axis modes, leading overall metabolic activity bats. study offers strategies for biodiversity conservation highlights importance addressing pollution raise public awareness.

Sperm swimming performance affects male fertilization success, particularly in species with high sperm competition. Understanding how morphology impacts is therefore important. speed hypothesized to increase total length, relative flagellum length (with the generating forward thrust), and midpiece (as contains mitochondria). This research is to predict heavy metal levels in plants, particularly Robinia pseudoacacia L., and soils using an effective artificial intelligence approach with some ecological parameters, thereby significantly eliminating common defects such as high cost seriously tedious time-consuming laboratory procedures. In this respect, the neural network (ANN) employed estimate concentrations of essential metals Fe, Mn Ni, depending on Cu Zn plant soil samples collected from five different locations. The derived relative errors for constructed ANN model have been computed within ranges 0.041–0.051, 0.017–0.025, 0.026–0.029 training, testing holdout data regarding Mn, respectively. addition, it has realized that could be diminished up 0.007 0.014 0.022 Ni by considering Cu, Zn, location parts independent variables during analysis. results produced seem instructive pioneering environmentalists scientists design optimal study programs leave a livable ecosystem.

Over the last 50 years, sperm competition has become increasingly recognised as a potent evolutionary force shaping male ejaculate traits. One such trait is swimming speed, with faster associated increased fertilisation success in some species. Consequently, are often thought to have evolved be longer order facilitate movement. However, despite intrinsic appeal of this argument, operate different biophysical environment than we used to, and instead increasing length may not necessarily higher velocity. Here, test four predictive models (ConstantPower Density, Constant Speed, Power Transfer, Force) relationship between speed. We collated published data on morphology velocity from 141 animal species, tested for structural clustering then compared model predictions across all morphologically similar clusters. Within five morphological clusters sperm, did find significant positive total Instead, found evidence Speed model, which predicts that power output determined by flagellum so proportional length. Our results show (size, width) speed complex traditional do capture interactions involved. Future work therefore needs incorporate only better understanding how microfluid environment, but also importance fertilising i.e., internal external fertilisers. The microenvironment critical form

Abstract Sperm morphology varies considerably among species. traits may contribute to speciation if they diverge fast in allopatry and cause conspecific sperm precedence upon secondary contact. However, their role driving prezygotic isolation has been poorly investigated. Here we test the hypothesis that, early process, female promiscuity promotes a reduction overlap length distributions songbird populations. We assembled data set of 20 pairs populations with known distributions, published estimate divergence time, an index derived from extrapair paternity rates or relative testis size. found that diverged more rapidly promiscuous Faster between was caused by lower variance trait species, not faster mean lengths. The reduced is presumably due stronger stabilizing selection on mediated competition. If divergent optima causes sympatry, which remains be shown empirically, promote isolation, rapid songbirds.

Environmental pollution can result in poor sperm quality either directly or indirectly birds. However, adaptive and compensatory morphology changes motility improvements have rapidly evolved tree sparrows (Passer montanus) inhabiting polluted areas over the past 65 years. To identify genetic underpinnings of evolving phenotype, we carried out population genomics transcriptomics on sparrow populations two differently places. We identified a gene encoding serine/threonine protein kinase PIM1, which may drive rapid phenotypic evolution sperm. An unprecedented remarkable expansion PIM family, caused by tandem segmental duplication was subsequently observed genome. Most PIM1 duplicates showed testis-specific expression pattern, suggesting that their functions are related to male reproduction. Furthermore, elevated level consistent with our earlier findings longer faster swimming sites, indicating an important role for duplicated facilitating Our results suggest provides sources variation enable under environmental heavy metal pollution. The this study indicated genes be targets selection predominant adaptation change shed light stress.
