The socioeconomic costs of traffic congestion are crippling in urbanising China. This study is a first attempt to explore the spatiotemporal pattern performance 77 Chinese large cities by using real-time big data. In recent decades, urbanization around the world has become an unavoidable trend. However, rapid brought about a number of “urban diseases” which have considerable influence on sustainable urbanization. order to diagnose urban problems, this study introduces new perspective for evaluation sustainability named health examination (UHE)” based lifeform theory treats city as human body system. Then, index system UHE incorporating eight dimensions is constructed by referring existing authoritative indicator systems globally. Furthermore, deviation maximization method and obstacle analysis are integrated evaluate development level diseases. Finally, in verify feasibility methodological framework, empirical was conducted Wuhan, Central China. The results show that (1) main diseases suffered Wuhan City 2010–2019 include traffic congestion, waterlogging, unsafe production, insufficient technological power, excessive development; (2) evolution mechanism been explored.
