Although nutrient availability is widely recognized as the driving force behind Microcystis blooms, identifying microorganisms that play a pivotal role in their formation challenging task. Cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cyanoHABs), which are a form of microbial dysbiosis in freshwater environments, an emerging environmental and public health concern. Additionally, the environment serves as reservoir antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), pose risk transmission during dysbiosis, such cyanoHABs. However, interactions between potential synergistic pollutants, cyanoHABs, ARGs remain poorly understood. During Microcystis high microcystin levels were dominant all nine regions river sampled. The resistome, mobilome, microbiome interrelated linked to physicochemical properties freshwater. Planktothrix Pseudanabaena competed with Actinobacteriota Proteobacteria Forty two ARG carriers identified, most belonged Proteobacteria. showed strong correlation density, decreased severity cyanoHAB. Numerous studies have investigated the spatiotemporal variability in water microbial communities, yet effects of relic DNA on community profiles, especially microeukaryotes, remain far from fully understood. Here, total and active bacterial microeukaryotic compositions were characterized using propidium monoazide (PMA) treatment coupled with high-throughput sequencing a river-reservoir ecosystem. Beta diversity analysis showed significant difference composition between both PMA untreated treated bacteria microeukaryotes; however, differentiating effect was much stronger for microeukaryotes. Relic only resulted underestimation relative abundances Bacteroidota Nitrospirota, while other taxa exhibited no changes. As some phytoplankton (e.g. Chlorophyta, Dinoflagellata Ochrophyta) fungi greater after removal, whereas Cercozoa Ciliophora opposite trend. Abstract The accelerated decline in Arctic sea-ice cover and duration is enabling the opening of marine passages improving access to natural resources. increasing accessibility navigation resource exploration production brings risks accidental hydrocarbon releases into waters, posing a major threat ecosystems where oil may persist for many years, especially beach sediment. composition response microbial community contamination on beaches remain poorly understood. To address this, we analyzed structure identified degradation genes among Northwest Passage intertidal sediments shoreline seawater from five high beaches. Our results 16S/18S rRNA genes, long-read metagenomes, metagenome-assembled genomes reveal metabolic capabilities degrader community, as well tight cross-habitat cross-kingdom interactions dominated by lineages that are common often dominant polar coastal habitat, but distinct petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated sites. In sediment habitats, Granulosicoccus sp. Cyclocasticus were potential hydrocarbon-degraders, our metagenomes revealed small proportion microalgae algal viruses possessing key biodegradative genes. This research demonstrates communities possess ability attenuation. findings provide new insights viral microalgal might represent an important contribution removal hydrocarbons under harsh environmental conditions pristine, cold, oil-free environment threatened spills.
