The Hunjiang River, a vital water system in northeastern China, has suffered severe ecological damage due to overexploitation. This study analyzes the basin’s environmental conditions from 2016 2020, identifies key restoration factors, and examines practical projects. Investigating five major pollutants (permanganate index, chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical demand, ammonia nitrogen, total phosphorus) eight sections, finds Xicun section most polluted, mainly Baishan City’s industrial domestic discharges. nitrogen concentration at Zian also shows deterioration. Using DPSIR (Driving forces, Pressures, State, Impacts, Responses) framework, elucidates relationship between socio-economic issues. Results indicate that population changes, development, resource management have complex impacts. Evaluating urban carrying capacity with entropy weight method correlation coefficient weighting method, increasing forest coverage, improving wastewater treatment efficiency, reducing COD emissions are crucial. Quantitative assessment of integrated protection projects involving mountains, rivers, forests, farmlands, lakes, grasslands demonstrates their positive impact. research reveals interplay environment social proposes measures, clarifies project effects, providing reliable decision-making schemes for policymakers.

The increasing tensions between urban development and ecological environments in China, as evidenced by the country’s rapidly globalising urbanising society, pose significant challenges to implementation of sustainable strategies. In order evaluate coupled coordination degree (CCD) regional (RD) carrying capacity (ECC) within Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle, this study proposes a comprehensive CCD evaluation framework. This framework includes indicator analysis, quantitative measurement coupling coordination, identification types, impacts. results indicate that is on growth trajectory while lags behind. has shifted from state ’basically uncoordinated’ coordinated’, exhibiting decreasing gradient spatial distribution, with core cities demonstrating leadership. thus provides set optimised strategies tailored at different stages development, offering theoretical foundation decision-making for promoting quality Circle.

Based on the objective evaluation of regional ecological quality (Urban Cluster in Mid-inner Zhejiang) by Remote Sensing based Ecological Index (RSEI), it was proposed to study spatial-temporal response urban built-up areas, impervious surface, land use and "production-living-ecological" space under settlement change quantitatively describe mechanism human activities' influence ecology. The results showed that: (1) From 1985 2020, RSEI Urban Zhejiang above 0.50 as a whole, showing trend first decreasing then increasing with slight decrease some parts. (2) perspective dominated level 2–3, gradually changing from 3 2. (3) accounting for more than 75.00% total area. (4) use, cropland, forestland, water construction were mainly 2–4, 3–4, 3–4 2–3. (5) space, production living 3, can deepen understanding impact development quality, avoid unbalanced situation blindly pursuing socio-economic while ignoring environment, which scientifically helps sustainable high-quality Zhejiang.
