Abstract The transition to a Circular Economy (CE) represents critical rethinking of production and consumption systems, aiming replace the prevailing linear model with regenerative cycles that prioritize resource efficiency, waste reduction, environmental sustainability. However, existing performance indicators such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP) conventional efficiency metrics are insufficient for capturing complex interactions among flows, lifecycle impacts, social equity core dimensions circularity. This review examines emergence application Metrics (CEMs) tools advancing measurement strategic implementation across micro, meso, macro levels. Through systematic synthesis literature, study evaluates key methodologies including Material Flow Analysis (MFA) Life Cycle (LCA), alongside integrative frameworks Circularity Index (CI) Circular-Based Quantity Assessment Tool (C.Q.A.T.). These assessed their effectiveness in operationalizing circularity, guiding sustainable business practices, informing policy. Despite promise, several barriers constrain adoption CEMs, data limitations, technological challenges, lack standardization, fragmented regulatory environments. identifies best practices highlights gaps, particularly regarding integration long-term economic dimensions. mapping current approaches this article contributes development more holistic actionable CE metrics. It offers foundation future research policy innovation aimed at supporting systemic transitions robust inclusive circular economy.

As the construction sector is one of most carbon-intensive and resource-intensive industries, necessity for a transition from linear to circular economy widely acknowledged. Aimed at facilitating transition, several policy frameworks, operational tools assessment instruments have been developed in recent decades. Nevertheless, integration circularity remains constrained haphazard, frequently focusing solely on production phase neglecting comprehensive impacts within overall process. The detected gap between theoretical framework practical implementation reflected by limited coordination policies tools, which creates significant obstacle adoption consistent effective practices. A dual analysis conducted, comprising two parallel domains: an investigation urban environments through literature review, practice-oriented resilience green building rating systems. result, common ground shared targets are identified scopes, as well contrasts inconsistencies that require further attention. These classified according their role barriers or drivers change, recommendations synergistic improvement provided.

Abstract This study examines how rural conditions affect the establishment and performance of new circular economy (CE) companies—those that reduce, reuse, recycle, recover materials in their processes—focusing on longevity, financial performance, distribution economic value to stakeholders. We hypothesize while generally lead fewer business establishments, liability rurality is less severe for CE companies than others. also anticipate will grow more slowly but achieve better resulting higher survival rates compared those other sectors. Our empirical analysis includes all established Spain over past decade. The results indicate have urban counterparts, even after controlling factors like subsidies personnel costs. Although exhibit slower growth, they greater profitability. Thus, sector areas demonstrates sustainability not only through its practices terms, offering significant implications investors seeking sustainable ventures.
