Determining the sources of heavy metals in soil on a large scale is great significance for improving environmental management, especially regions where are complex. We analyzed and correlations southwestern China counted content five typical metal elements by collecting samples from 309 locations. The risk pollution study area relatively high, with cadmium posing highest risk. areas high medium development levels carbonate rocks significantly higher than that low development-level rock non-carbonate regions. In medium-carbonate regions, intensity human activities exceeds high-carbonate resulting more consistent between two zones. main predominantly natural, while moderate there mixed influence both anthropogenic natural sources. minimal. There also notable differences within region, southeastern exhibiting much values other which related to activity being greater areas. Among these, polluting enterprises discharge most significant contributors. This provides support understanding spatial their influencing factors at national or regional level.
