Coordination incentives like the agglomeration bonus have been proposed to induce spatial of biodiversity conservation efforts and counter loss fragmentation species habitats. Most theoretical empirical analyses make unrealistic assumptions about structure landholdings. This paper presents a spatially explicit agent-based simulation model explore how landholdings affects performance bonus. It turns out that if number land parcels per landowner is large their cohesive, higher proportion conserved can be achieved for given budget, implying level cost-effectiveness. also has implications cost-effective design coordination incentives. The observed effects are especially high costs vary strongly in space.

Abstract Coastal areas are at the centre of human–nature relationship, shaped by recreation, tourism and aesthetic values. However, socioeconomic drivers biodiversity change in coastal have received less attention. Soft sediment seafloors support diverse species communities contribute to ecosystem functionality. One main threats is dredging, which sweeps resident organisms. Dredgings commonly done deepen waterways, but also for purposes private housing. The ecological impacts these small‐sized dredgings not well known over broad environmental geographical gradients. We developed a simple approach spatial integration system, describe how recreational land use contributes loss marine biodiversity. It shows human behaviour, such as preference location second home, can be derived from data coupled with change. characterize typical locations homes based on accessibility, aesthetics environment, information identified suitable new homes. quantified depth substrate sea floor, extent reed beds, influencing access properties. then simulate an annual increase expected land‐use change, namely dredging shores. Finally, we realized projected dredged sites, distribution models, relying extensive collected 170,000 underwater sites. found that detrimental biodiversity, targets shallow, photic bays lagoons, algal aquatic plant communities, limited recovery potential. had benthic faunal habitats, maintain processes functions. Models are widely used for investigating cause-effect relationships in complex systems. However, often different models yield diverging causal claims about specific phenomena. Therefore, critical reflection is needed on insights derived from modeling. As an example, we here compare ecological dealing with the dynamics and collapse of cod Baltic Sea. Abstract Climate change is one of the largest threats for biodiversity as changing climatic conditions often make existing habitat sites less suitable. This poses new challenges species conservation, in particular agricultural landscapes, where climate may also induce modifications land use. To conserve agri-environment schemes (AES) which compensate farmers implementing conservation measures are commonly used. However, current research on cost-effective design AES largely ignores necessary adaptations given change. ABSTRACT Wind wave is a significant hydrodynamic factor in Poyang Lake, affecting the stability of lake ecosystem. However, processes and mechanisms by which it drives biodiversity patterns ecological transition zones are not clear. This study delves into intricate relationship between wind characteristics vegetation within lake's zone during normal water level period from October to March 2018–2019 provides novel insights oscillation cycles indexes their influence on patterns. The main findings were as follows: (1) cyclical trend occurred height (WVH), wavelength (WVL) shoreline flushing distance (FLD), with distinct periods energy centres, notably 47‐day primary for WVH WVL, 40 days FLD. It underscored dynamic nature interactions potential shape landscape. (2) Species richness increased grasslands zones, dominated Carex cinerascens, Phragmites communis Triarrhena lutarioriparia, then declined towards areas where Phalaris arundinacea Gnaphalium affine became key species. (3) (Shannon Diversity Index [SHDI], Modified Simpson [MSIDI]) evenness Evenness [SHEI], [MSIEI]) reached highest lowest grassland, indicating importance these species diversity. (4) There was positive correlation wave‐induced coverage. further linked regulatory effects richness, inversely size diversity evenness. Many species need to cross landscapes for dispersal or seasonal migration. In view of the biodiversity crisis and increasing landscape fragmentation, incentives are needed foster connectivity improve spatial coordination protected sites across privately owned land. This study empirically investigates a network scheme in Switzerland with dataset covering 322 program areas. some areas, can receive only if they compliant adjacency rule 100 m between sites, policy corresponds bonus. other this does not apply, i.e. apply same but irrespective location their field vis-à-vis others.
