Oyster aquaculture helps mitigate coastal eutrophication by assimilating organic nitrogen for biomass and denitrification in both the oyster digestive tract sediment below. Efforts are needed quantitative assessment of oysters’ multiple removal pathways at large-scale sites, especially bodies, which has been much less quantified among these pathways. This study takes a subtropical estuary (Shenzhen Bay South China) as testbed to conduct laboratory rearing experiments field investigation. The results show that an individual harvest size can remove 0.59 mg-N day−1 through within body, be proportionally extrapolated 4.6 kg-N km−2 Shenzhen Bay. Assimilating measurements into “flux inventory model” yields oyster-induced total 33.3 day−1, harvest, oysters, contributed 26%, 14%, 60%, respectively. Additionally, oyster’s filter-feeding lifestyle exports from water column sediment, contribute ~3% daily input bay. confirms potential removal, provides working framework growing scale floating aquaculture.

With the increasing adoption of ecosystem approach as integral to sustainable development policies, economic valuation marine and coastal services (ESs) has become relevant for informing decision-making processes. Through an integrated encompassing bibliometric, network, content analyses, this review is aimed at analyzing evolution trend, main research clusters, gaps scientific literature in field ESs. The bibliometric results showed that experiencing evolving positive trend represents a challenging topic. From network overlay visualization keyword co-occurrences, it emerged clusters comprehensively address key policy-relevant issues. In analysis, examination estimated ESs methods used by studies with highest impact on was conducted. findings suggest while provide valuable data insights, their practical applicability policymaking limited, due contextual relevance bias Overall, underscores need paradigm shift better inform real-world policy decisions, identifying Marine Spatial Planning (MSP) process framework bridging these future implementation.

Phytoplankton is essential in coastal marine ecosystems, aiding ecosystem stability and development of economy. Coastal as a transitional zone, feature complex, variable environmental factors that significantly affect phytoplankton growth. To assess the influencing growth bay area, this study measured chlorophyll (Chla), nutrients, four antibiotics (sulfamethoxazole, sulfadiazine, ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin) seawater, well total nitrogen phosphorus contents sediments at 25 stations Lianzhou Bay. Principal component analysis risk quotient (RQ) were utilized for assessment. The results indicate Chla concentrations are inconsistent between nearshore offshore areas Specifically, abundant high ammonia levels, low enrofloxacin primary contributing to area. In contrast, hydrodynamic conditions, feeding by cultured shellfish, adequate lighting collectively shape distribution characteristics Additionally, ecological posed relatively low. findings provide scientific evidence local management pollution sources optimization aquaculture models, which great significance sustainable utilization resources.

To investigate the impact of freshwater discharge variations from Nanliu River on phytoplankton community structure in Lianzhou Bay, we conducted surveys total chlorophyll- a (Tchl- ) concentrations and specific pigment groups during wet dry seasons 2016. During season, introduced substantial freshwater, nutrients, suspended particulate matter into Bay. Due to reduced light availability, Tchl- at most stations were lower compared season. The result indicated that availability often exerts greater influence than nutrient estuarine environments. Furthermore, spatial distribution Bay is correlated with feeding activities bivalve aquaculture water movement within bay. high-water period, was primarily composed diatoms (35.0%), cyanobacteria (21.0%), prasinophytes (13.0%), chlorophytes (19.0%), cryptophytes (11.0%). Abstract Urban estuaries face numerous problems stemming from excess nutrients stormwater runoff. Baltimore Harbor, an urban estuary, has intense and frequent phytoplankton blooms that can lead to hypoxic anoxic zones, ultimately fish kills. Efforts reduce the nutrients, fuel algae blooms, focus on point sources not remediation once have entered water. In water removal of is often in form uptake by bivalve suspension feeders. Competing uses for nearshore coastal space, such as aquaculture, have complex environmental and ecological interactions with surrounding seagrass meadows. Oyster aquaculture is among the fastest-growing segments in United States, it brings concerns increased sedimentation from farm maintenance operations altered water quality through oyster filtration. Changes coverage growth are common indicators of health used to determine anthropogenic impacts on environments. This study characterized effects a research-scale adjustable long-line system adjacent meadows Copano Bay, TX. Four Halodule wrightii were identified at various distances research site: 100 m upstream (upstream), directly (0 m), 30 downstream (30 60 (60 m). Sites monitored 1) health, 2) parameters, 3) sediment deposition. Over 18-week sampling period, no significant differences ( p >0.05) found variables or grain-size analysis using one-way ANOVA. A linear mixed-effects model was repeated measures data, effect site mean length, coverage, maximum length >0.05). These results suggest that unaffected by proximity system.
