Background/Objectives: This study evaluates the effect of Mn(II) and Co(II) ions on production anti-Candida metabolites by endophytic fungus Aspergillus sp., isolated from Dizygostemon riparius. The objective was to identify metal-induced secondary with antifungal potential against drug-resistant Candida species. Methods: sp. cultivated in Czapek agar supplemented MnCl₂ (400 µM) or CoCl₂ (200 µM). Metabolite profiles were analyzed using UHPLC-DAD LC-ESI-HRMS, followed structural elucidation via NMR. Antifungal biofilm inhibition activities tested albicans parapsilosis. Toxicity assessed Tenebrio molitor larvae. Results: Key metabolites, including pyrophen, penicillquei B, fonsecinone demonstrated activity MIC values 4.37–280.61 µg/mL. Fonsecinone B exhibited superior inhibition, surpassing fluconazole reducing biomass viability. In vivo assays showed low toxicity, survival rates above 80% at 2× MIC/kg. Conclusions: significantly modulated emerged as a promising candidate for therapy due its potent toxicity. These findings support further investigation into therapeutic fungal combating infections.

Microplastics (MPs) and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) pose significant challenges to the One Health framework due their intricate multifaceted ecological environmental impacts. However, understanding of how MP properties influence ARG prevalence in mariculture sediments remains limited. Herein, polystyrene (PS) polyvinyl chloride (PVC) MPs with different sizes (20-120 μm 0.5-2.0 mm) were selected evaluate impacts underlying mechanisms driving ARGs dissemination. The results showed that PS PVC increased relative abundance by 1.41-2.50-fold 2.01-2.84-fold, respectively, compared control, particularly high-risk genes. polymer type effect was identified as more influential than size sediment resistome evolution. shifted microbial community assembly from stochastic deterministic processes, thus enriching host pathogens. Furthermore, highly hydrophobic not only recruited bacteria colonization but also facilitated exchange within plastisphere. exogenous additives released (e.g., heavy metals, bisphenol A, tridecyl ester) particles synergistically promoted conjugative transfer inducing oxidative stress enhancing cell membrane permeability. These findings revealed characteristics spread marine benthic ecosystems, underscoring importance mitigating pollution maintain ecosystem health, prevent zoonotic diseases, balance global health.

Abstract When performing effect studies to investigate the impact of microplastic (MP) on cell lines, algae, or daphnia, it is advantageous if such experiments can be performed without use surfactants. The need for surfactants arises from fact that finely milled pristine MP particles generally are hydrophobic. Methods preparation larger amounts hydrophilic and hence artificially aged approaches their characterization high importance. Here we present methods age polyethylene terephthalate (PET) low-density (PE) using alkaline acidic treatments reproducibly result in large quantities below 5 µm with considerably increased hydrophilicity. were characterized particle counting by single-particle extinction scattering (SPES), size laser diffraction measurements, zeta potential electrophoretic light scattering, hydrophobicity index (Hy) through dark-field (DF) microscopy, chemical composition inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) Raman microscopy. values obtained should allow as qualitative reference materials (RMs) an ordinal property. Evidence maintained integrity hydrophilicity (in powder form) over time was measurements a 33-month interval. Uniformity subsampling respect number concentration suspensions within 10-day period also investigated. It provided evidence possibility reproducible spiking specific relative standard deviations (RSDs) 6.2 13.6%. For development future microplastics, they property (artificial Hy-index) nominal (identity PET PE based spectral matching). Graphical

Antibiotic resistance (AR) is recognized by the World Health Organization as a major threat to human health, and recent studies highlight role of microplastics (MPs) in its spread. MPs environment may act vectors for antibiotic-resistant bacteria (ARB) antibiotic genes (ARGs). Bacterial communities on plastisphere, surface MPs, are influenced plastic properties, allowing ARB colonize form biofilms. These biofilms facilitate transfer ARGs within microbial communities. This study analyzed data from LUCAS soil dataset (885 samples across EU countries) using Emu tool characterize at genus/species level. Functional annotation via PICRUSt2, supported custom output formatting, revealed significant correlations between genera Solirubrobacter, Bradyrhizobium, Nocardioides, Bacillus with pathways linked microplastic degradation resistance. were consistently present various types (woodland, grassland, cropland), suggesting their potential bioindicators health relation MP pollution. The findings underscore hotspots ARGs, offering new insights into identification monitoring ecological impacts related contamination.
