Abstract Legislation and market competition make it necessary to assess systems regarding their environmental, social, economic impacts. The life cycle sustainability assessment (LCSA) approach can be used for this purpose. However, the literature shows limitations of approach. This article focuses on often encountered inconsistency reduced transparency within dimension due lack harmonized impact methods. Therefore, we propose a novel (eLCIA) method called DEALA (Differentiated Economic Assessment in Life Cycle‐Oriented Analysis), which allows assessments at three levels aggregation. Overall, is based principles provides structured conduct environmental costing studies, resulting greater transparency, comparability, flexibility, as illustrated by an initial comparison with existing case study. also facilitates differentiated detailed analysis results so that hotspots improvement potentials identified, making suitable LCIA should considered future studies. These benefits are confirmed through LCSA battery supply chain. specific insights design more sustainable chains.
