Background An escalating body of clinical trials and observational studies hints at a plausible link between gut flora postpartum depression (PPD). The definitive causal dynamics these two entities remain shrouded in ambiguity. Therefore, this study, we employed the two-sample Mendelian randomization approach to ascertain microbiota PPD. Methods Summary-level GWAS data related human were obtained from international consortium MiBioGen Dutch Microbiome Project (species). For PPD, derived FinnGen biobank, consisting 57,604 cases 596,601 controls. inverse variance weighted method (IVW) as cornerstone our analytical approach. Subsequent this, comprehensive suite tests for pleiotropy heterogeneity conducted ensure reliability robustness findings. Results We identified 12 bacterial taxa associated with risk Veillonellaceae, Ruminococcaceae UCG 011 , Bifidobacterium adolescentis Paraprevotella clara Clostridium leptum Eubacterium siraeum Coprococcus catus exhibited an inversely Alphaproteobacteria, Roseburia FamilyXIIIAD3011group Alistipes onderdonkii Bilophila wadsworthia showed positive correlation Limitations consortium, DMP, may introduce selection bias. Moreover, primarily originates European populations, hence extrapolating results diverse populations should be approached caution. etiological factors behind PPD enigmatic, alluding existence potential undisclosed confounders. Conclusion Based on MR analysis, found relationship certain microbial communities Future can further explore treatment through combined use microorganisms. This not only offers insights into pathogenesis but also lays foundation utilizing biotherapeutics treating neurological disorders.
